Pre teen acne

My nearly 11 year old is struggling terribly with acne. We've seen a dermatologist and been prescribed topical adapalene but it's doing nothing. Prior to that we tried every lotion and lotion going from boots including some other GP prescribed roll on which I can't remember the name of. She washes and moisturises her face regularly, we use sudocrem which kind of dries them out but she's beside herself with embarrassment. Yes all teens will eventually go through this to some extent but she's only 10 and her self esteem has nosedived. Please, what else can I do?

Go back to the dermatologist and ask for the next step on the ladder. Or the GP should be able to help.

I took roaccutane in the end for mine and no more spots, I’d tried so many otc treatments and they’d all failed. It’s the skin equivalent of getting cancer and trying a vegan diet to cure it.

I’ve been treating my acne since late teens and now my 12 year old has acne too. I’ve had everything from topical treatments to Roaccutane.

Happily it’s under control for both of us and we both use adapalene (Differin gel). I’ve been using it for around five years. My skin is pretty clear. This is what we both do.

Cleanse with cerave SA cleanser. Using a clean facecloth morning and night.
Leave skin to dry for around 5-10 minutes.

Apply differin. Don’t put anything else on the skin. It will feel a little tight. Really important not to put anything else on her face at this point.
When going to bed apply Curel moisturising milk.
Suncreen every day.

It will take a good few weeks for the Differin to work.
