Itchy contagious rash

My partner has had a rash since Jan. It's got worse and keeps him awake itching and feels like sharp pins all over his body. I've also developed one although it's not as bad. And his colleagues at work have. And the builder who's been working here. And a friend I met last weekend. All have the same: intensely itchy especially at night and tiny raised marks where the itching has been.
The GP has prescribed antihistamines and steroid cream but I'm wondering if this is a common contagious disease that ought to have been identified.
Had anyone any idea? He's waiting to see a dermatologist but in the meantime we could be spreading something inadvertently.

Scabies?

Northernlassie27 · 20/04/2021 14:59

@dementedpixie we tried treating that just in case...sadly no effect and I don't think it's easy to pass on to people you aren't in physical contact with. So many more people we know now seem to have it

Maybe a fungal infection?
