DD (18) has just been diagnosed witb GERD and has been prescribed omeprazole tablets. One of the side effects is nausea and vomiting - the symptoms she currently has! She's reluctant to take the tablets. Has anyone taken these? What was your experience? And what OTC meds do you recommend? Her main symptom is chest pain - a heaviness or tightness in her chest. Thanks.

Nausea and vomiting is written on leaflets as a potential symptom on many medicines. It’s probably even on paracetamol tablets!

I was never sick. The omeprazole just reduces the amount of acid your tummy produces so it’s less likely to burn if it does come up the throat. I found it really helpful. Don’t let the leaflet put her off using the tablets.

If she doesn’t she will suffer worse symptoms. I had agonising pains as the stomach acid burned me inside.

Looking at her diet will help also. I had to stop eating and drinking crap. That helped too, as well as reducing stress.

Yes, we're looking at her diet too. Cutting out coffee, fizzy drinks. The rest is pretty healthy. Thanks.
