Lower back spasms

I have suffered on and off with back since I had my twins two years ago, I’m referred for physio but my appointment isn’t for another 2 weeks.

My back kicked off a week ago and it’s been the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life, the spasms are excruciating. When I managed to stand up and move I ventured outside and my back had another spasm which was so severe the pain made me faint, banging my head on the concrete.

I have been taking codeine and naproxen which was prescribed by my GP but it hasn’t helped me at all.
I’ve been prescribed diazepam this morning and took a 2mg tablet around 4 hours ago, I’ve just tried to get up and move and had another extreme back spasm.

I don’t know how much longer I can go on in this pain, when can I expect the diazepam to kick in and stop these spasms?

(I've had sciatica, herniated disc and cauda equina)
Try not to sit. Either stand or lie and keep your spine in line and use pillows to help
I sleep with one v flat pillow for my head and then one between my knees and lie on my side
Video attached for getting in and out of bed

Hot water bottle or thermacare lower hip and back wraps Try standing in the shower and aim the water (hot) at the point it spasms Be extra careful when you first get up in the morning Take all the drugs, exactly on time even if you set an alarm for a few hours before you get up

Read it, do the exercises. The first level you can do lying in bed. They help a lot.

Diazepam kicks in quite quickly - I noticed a difference after the second tablet.

Just to update you, I got prescribed 5mg diazepam which I took with naproxen and cocodomol and finally the spasms stopped, after a week of the excruciating pain I decided to see an osteopath, the difference after just once session was unbelievable, I’ve now had 2 sessions as well as doing exercises inbetween I’m off the pain killers and my days are relatively pain free now.
The osteopath told me a bone in my hip had raised and moved forward which she thinks happened during pregnancy 2 years ago and has gradually caused more and more compression on my lower two discs that I’ve ended up with the extreme spasms.

If anyone is in doubt over whether to visit an osteopath I would 100% recommend you do.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
