Cystitis? Help!

LadyPeesALot · 06/04/2021 21:30

I’ve never had it before but I think I have cystitis. Have had a heavy feeling in the groin area all morning, peeing a bit more than normal but not too bad.
But my god it has ramped up this evening! I’ve been running to pee every 10 mins and it hurts like hell! I’m drinking loads of water to flush it out as presumably that will help but it hurts, wahhh it hurts Sad
Since I can’t get to a pharmacy until the morning is there anything I can do tonight to help other than rip my bladder out? Am I going to be up all night?

Poor you.

If you have an effervescent vitamin c tablets they work really well.

fruitypancake · 06/04/2021 21:37

Oh yes it's horrible .. lots of water! Will obviously make you wee more but will be less concentrated and flush it out

SpeckledyHen · 06/04/2021 21:37

A warm bath and a paracetamol.

Marpan · 06/04/2021 21:39

If your in the uk then it’s nhs 24.

They should give you something
Pharmacies don’t really have much to treat it here

Twinkie01 · 06/04/2021 21:52

Pour tepid water over you as you pee and drink lemon barley water. You'd think it's make it worse being lemon but it doesn't.

Cystapurol (sp?) is very good too.

Thank you all for responding.
No vitamin C tabs. I’m not in the UK and the out of hours here would be useless as they wouldn’t give me meds I would have to wait until morning to collect a prescription anyway.
It’s literally a constant trip to the bathroom now and I’m getting shivery but I’m not sure if that’s from the freezing cold understairs toilet or the infection Confused No temp so I think it’s the cold!
In a stroke of luck though I have found 4 days of an antibiotic that my DD was prescribed for a UTI that she didn’t use - it’s Nitrofurantoin which I think is often prescribed for cystitis. I’m thinking I’ll self medicate and see how I am in the morning- the thoughts of being up all night on the loo and I have a meeting at 8.30am 😫

Paracetamol
Keep drinking as much water as you can
Hot water bottle
Teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in water to alkinise urine

Alfaix · 06/04/2021 22:00

Nitrofuratonin is what I take for cystitis. 100mg twice a day. It works.
See if you can get hold of Azo for future.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 06/04/2021 22:00

Don't do vitamin c, the acid will irritate your poor bladder!

Drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol, take painkillers, and get antibiotics ASAP if it doesn't subside.

I was given Nitrofurantoin for a suspected UTI last week it wasn't it was a kidney infection so they didn't help but you're right. They're used for UTI's.

Warm hot water bottle between your legs helps with cystitis and cystopurin always helped me along with cranberry juice. Never was given ab's for cystitis though.

RizzleRazzle · 06/04/2021 22:05

I've had about 8 during this pregnancy and the best thing I've found to help relieve the discomfort is a hot water bottle between my thighs. No idea why but it's the only thing that allows me to get to sleep when I have a UTI.

picklemewalnuts · 06/04/2021 22:09

Take paracetamol for temperature. Pour water over yourself while going, or go in the bath. Use bicarb in a Sitz bath.

It's miserable but will usually shift quite quickly once you start paying attention.

LadyPeesALot · 06/04/2021 22:15

Thank you all so much for your helpful advice - I have the hot water bottle between my legs, have taken meds, water, bicarbonate in water - I’ll kill it before it kills me Grin

I feel so much better thank you so much for asking. After a rough enough night it no longer feels like I’m passing razor blades as I peeGrin

I think trying almost every remedy on here and the self prescribed antibiotics worked! I never knew cystitis was such a bitch 🤷‍♀️ Hope it never happens again!

Drink like a fish at the first sign of heat/stinging. Make sure your wee is always pale. That seems to keep it at bay, I've not had it for years!

Alfaix · 07/04/2021 16:48

D mannose is another idea. It’s a sugar that you can’t digest so it is excreted via urine and the bacteria stick to it.
Glad you feel better.
