Sudden severe wrist pain at night

Woke with awful pain in my wrist last night, remember waking once and it ached thought I'd slept on it funny, woke again and couldn't move it or my fingers without shooting pain, and then it became constant so bad I woke my other half.
Took off my ring in case it started swelling and something went pop when I twisted it over to undo my watch, then it suddenly went off.

Today the top of my arm aches just above where a Tshirt sleeve would come to, every now and then I move it and get a shooting pain in my wrist but very briefly and it's fine again.
There is more of an ache in the top of my arm as the day has gone on, was awful after putting the washing out, seems to be lifting it to shoulder height or above.

At first thought maybe a trapped nerve but now wondering if there's more to it and linked to on and off knuckle pain, though that's not happened for a month or so.

Its my non dominant hand and I can't think of anything I've to it in the last few days.

Carpal tunnel syndrome?

perfectpizza · 05/04/2021 19:48

I was also going to say carpel tunnel syndrome

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2021 19:51

I also think possibly carpal tunnel syndrome.

I've only had it once, when pregnant with DC1 and it's very painful so I sympathise. It went away by itself quite quickly, thankfully.

I did look at that online when it came up in searches for trapped nerve and pain, but I've not had any numbness or tingling in my hands or fingers.
Just the awful pain last night and weird aching in my upper arm today, which I don't know how it relates.

Will see if it happens again and then get it checked out.
Thanks

Is it your left? Any heart conditions?

Rugby. I’ve got a similar thing going on. It started with the shoulder which hurts when I put my arm out in front of me horizontally or raise it high. It clicks a bit too. About 6 weeks ago my little finger on the same size now clicks when I bend it and each morning it gets sort of stuck in a straight position and gives two really loud clicks when I first bend it. I have an X-ray for the finger problem on Wednesday. I didn’t think to link it to the shoulder but am going to phone the GP and see if he will arrange for a shoulder X-ray. I don’t think mine is carpal tunnel either as no numbness or tingling and it sounds like the pain of that condition is more in the lower arm rather than upper.

Does it feel like there's a tender spot in your bicep if you press it? And/or that you get a burning pain in your upper arm if you overstretch it? I've had this going on since after Christmas so am watching. Pain also in shoulder and difficult getting dressed. I'm assuming some sort of RSI/frozen shoulder thing from sitting at my desk all day (mouse arm).

It's probably yet another symptom of Covid Grin

How come I can't see this latest post? Is it just me? It simply doesn't show when I open this thread?
