Cold sores and periods

I posted this on Chat too. I've been getting cold sores monthly and worked out they happen about a week before my period. They seem to come up the morning after poor sleep. I'm 40 and this has been happening on and off for roughly 3 years. Anyone else noticed similar? If so, did anything work for you?

I did previously have aciclovir prescribed but only a small supply. I have also tried l-lysine and can't say that it worked.

Although cold sores seem very minor they do get me down as I have to be very aware when I have them to avoid spreading them to family. So any ideas gratefully received.

Mirena coil plus acliclovir works to reduce then for me. Also uv lip sunscreen in summer.

You need acyclovir on a repeat prescription so that you have it there ready for when you have an attack, take tabs as soon as you fe tingle, I took 3 a day for 5 days everytime, it should lessen the attack but also help wth next one.
I did this and now mine are only every few months (mine were linked with cycle like yours)
Also some vits to boost your immune system, I take C & D, magnesium and drink herbal teas with added British vits

Thanks for the replies. I've done an e-consult with the GP and they have prescribed acyclovir. They said it's a common link between cold sores and periods. I will try a multi vit too as probably a good idea anyway.

Yep, I agree but got slated for saying so on a previous thread.
