How long for biopsy results after hysteroscopy?

I had a transvaginal ultrasound this week and am now booked to have a hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy on November 29th under a GA. Can anyone advise how long I will have to wait for the biopsy results? Thanks.

Hi Copycat
From working in the NHS I would say that the answer to this is going to vary a lot. IT shouldn't take too long for the biopsy to be reported on but the issue is how soon that is passed on to you. Some consultants wait to get results then when they know what they are looking at they ring with an appt, others like the patients to leave the ward with a date in 2,3, 6 weeks time etc. To get a better idea why don't you ring your consultant's secretary on Monday and ask. They should be able to give you some idea and it is perfectly usual for someone to call with this kind of query.

Thanks Lurker and Bellie. I guess the hysteroscopy itself will give the consultant an idea of what the swelling/lump is plus I am supposed to be having a full body CT scan although I don't have a date yet. I'm suprised that your results (hope they were okay) took as long as 7 or 8 days when you went private Bellie. I could be in for a long wait then. Thanks for replying.

I think the issue is even with private is that the tests still end up in the same labs!! I guess the consultants can mark urgent etc - I didn't have a lump - I had unexplained bleeding and when I came round my consultant said she thought that the biopsy looked normal but obviously had sent them to the lab. I guess mine were marked non urgent!

Once in the lab, they should take about a week (for routine cases) but there may be other things consultant will want to wait for before seeing you
