Lactulose farts... is this normal?!

NC for this as I'm embarrassed.

Was put on Lactulose recently for chronic constipation. 10mls didn't seem to do much, I was told 10-15mls twice a day, so upped it to 15.

Had ONE 15ml dose. On Sunday. It was effective. But have had terrible wind ever since, and the smell's so bad it's like I have a force field around me. WTAF?!

I don't think anyone else in the house has noticed, as I've been in my home office most of the time since taking it, due to a heavy work week. And DH, luckily for him, hasn't had to get near me as we sleep apart on weeknights due to a variety of sleep issues.

But really... 2 days later, and I'm still producing emissions that could be bottled at Porton Down and used for chemical warfare? What gives with this stuff?!

Please someone tell me it's not just me... and ideally that this side-effect goes away!!

You’ve taking medication that makes your bowels do stuff-I would imagine they will continue to do so whilst you’re taking it.

48 hours after the last dose, though?! That's what's really bemusing me...

Yes it will go away, I was on this stuff for weeks...not nice!

Yes, totally normal. Also if you get some wet farts it can be a little acidic and hurt the skin, so I use vaseline or sudocrem in that area after having a clean and after a bowel move.

I find taking it last thing at night is better as it works over night and then the bowel clears in the morning. And yes, the stink. I was on it to help with bum probs not constipation. I weened down to 5ml when the engine was running smoothly. You also have to drink lots of water too.

I am off it now thank goodness, but i always have a bottle in.
