Hi all. I feel I should preface this by saying that I do tend to panic and have health anxiety!
Anyway, I went to GP this morning because I requested a change of contraception. The type I requested cannot be given if I have high blood pressure so I had to go in to have it checked. It wasn't done by a nurse or doctor, I had to use one of those machines that you operate yourself. You put your arm into and it gives you a reading. I then handed the slip of paper to reception and the nurse will look at it later and then hopefully give me the prescription.
Anyway, it came out as 126/74. As far as I was aware this is considered perfectly normal, however I did what you should never do and Googled and it said that a systolic of more than 120 is considered 'pre hypertension'. As in, not quite high blood pressure but not far off it. So now I'm worried!
I should say that I was quite nervous in the doctors and my heart was racing a bit (again, anxiety 😂). I'm only 24, don't smoke, rarely drink and am of a healthy weight. I do have a family history of high blood pressure though (my dad is on medication for it).
Am I worrying over nothing? Probably 😂
