Endometrial ablation

Good morning everyone

I've just had my date for an endometrial ablation and camera in April.
I was wondering if anyone had had this done lately as I'm getting conflicting info off the Internet, some are saying you have general anaesthetic and some say you have local. The thought of local anaesthetic sends shivers up my spine! Please help!

Hi MammyAR, how did you get on with your ablation, has it worked for you?
I've had horrendous periods all my life, I'm 49, can't hardly go outside for a week as my periods are so heavy, flooding through the night too, been at GP numerous times! Was offered the ablation, but turned it down, but I'm thinking of reconsidering. Spoke to Doctor today, going for smear and other tests on Friday, Doctor mentioned the ablation again. Read a few posts on this sight that seemed positive in regards to this. So any information would be very appreciated. Thanks!

I had mine in 2007 after the exact same symptoms - it was so debilitating. It was day surgery and really straightforward - no bad effects afterwards other than a bit of weeping - a bit like you would after any burn. And the best part - no periods. At all. Nothing. And I am only 48 now! I knew I was done with babies so that part of it had no impact. Not having a period EVER has had a massive positive impact. I say go for it!

Best thing I ever did- I only had a very small amount of discharge for a few weeks and then nothing- no more periods- after a horrid year of flooding and becoming anaemic-not going out because I was worried about how heavy my period was.

Thank you both so much, I think I'll definitely go for it. Sounds like it made a massive difference in your lives. I don't think I can go on any longer like this. I have an appointment with the Doctor on Friday and she is pushing for me to do it. I will now!!Smile

All the best Cats99. Mind has been the best thing ever. I had it done about 12 years ago and have not had a single period since. Massive improvement in my quality of life.

Mine not mind!

I had one and I wasn’t aware when I woke up about the cramping - it was like after birth pains
Also you get trapped gas and that hurts too
But I was better quite quickly

Great, thank you!! SmileI appreciate people getting back to me. I'm totally going to have it done now. I'm hoping I wont be off my work for long, as I'm starting a new job mid July, although still working from home. X
