Can Amitriptyline cause constipation?

I've only taken free. I'm taking because of my back problems, I've been told that one of the side effects could be constipation which I'm really worried about. I was on co-dyzamol, and that really did cause severe constipation, and I don't really want to go through that again.
Can anyone advise me please?

Yes it can cause constipation. Pop to the chemist today and get some Fybogel or dulcoease. Take every evening for a few days then every other whilst your body adjusts to taking the amitriptyline. They will keep you regular but they are gentle enough not to give you explosive diarrhoea like laxatives would. (Don’t get dulcolax because that will!)

Some antidepressants, such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Endep), sertraline (Zoloft), and imipramine (Tofranil), can also cause constipation. Obviously, patients taking both opioids and antidepressants are at an increased risk for developing constipation

That's a bit worrying, as I had bad constipation from hell from Co-dydramol and I'd hate to go through that again.

I take it 20mg every night and not had constipation. If anything, the other way!

I notice I get a touch of heartburn from 9pm onwards, but sometimes it wears off.

I was on 10mg and didn't notice constipation

Instead of me starting a new thread., I'd like to ask can i take Omeprazole and Amitriptyline at the same time?

It's just when I take Amitriptyline, I get heartburn. Many thanks.

I've taken both before with no problems. It also didn't give me constipation.
