Bulky uterus

Cherry889 · 26/03/2021 13:35

I had gallbladder removal surgery yesterday and today the surgeon has advised me that he noticed I had a bulky uterus. He said this may be nothing but it could possibly be fibroids and he has booked me an ultrasound and transvaginal scan for Monday.

I’m obviously feeling delicate from yesterday’s surgery and disappointed that I may possibly have another issue.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Lots of threads on the women's health board about fibroids and associated issues. If it is fibroids and they aren't causing you any issues then there's usually no need to do anything about them.

Thank you. Can there be other causes of a bulky uterus? I am worrying it could be something more serious.

More often than not it will be fibroids. Better to get it checked out sooner than later as they can be easily treated.

I had a bulky uterus but no fibroids... went on to Have two healthy children.

Hope all will be fine for you OP

I have a bulky uterus. Have been diagnosed with endometriosis and possible adenomyosis.

Ultrasound is good step forward

Springquartet · 26/03/2021 15:47

Unfortunately I had a couple of miscarriages and lots of scans. I always found that 'bulky uterus' was recorded on the scan notes and when I asked was always told that it was connected with fibroids - but that it was nothing to worry about.

Namechange600 · 26/03/2021 16:03

I was told I had a bulky uterus after a miscarriage- I had adenomyosis as seen on ultrasound and confirmed via MRI and turned out I also had severe endometriosis

Cherry889 · 26/03/2021 17:14

Thank you. My dm has had both fibroids and endometriosis so I am not sure if they are hereditary.

I always think worst case scenario and google so I am trying really hard not to do that this time especially as I feel so sore from yesterday’s op.

You need an ultrasound on it for a better diagnosis. I’ve got a bulky uterus and got diagnosed with adenomyosis. they call it the sister to endometriosis. It doesn’t effect me much apart from having painful periods .

Cherry889 · 26/03/2021 21:15

Thanks I have an ultrasound booked for Monday. I’m not sure if they will tell me anything then or if I have to wait for the results.

I got told by the person doing the scan as I told her I have pcos so she wanted to know if I knew I had this.

Remember that quite a lot of the time it's absolutely nothing. It's common in women who've had children and women as they age

I was told I have a bulky uterus but I have no fibroids or anything at all like that. The doctor is right when he/she tells you that it's often just completely normal

Cherry889 · 27/03/2021 19:31

Thank you for the reassurance, I think it was due to being so unexpected that he would mention another condition it caused me to panic especially as I’d barely slept the night before due to pain from surgery.

I think the fact you arent suffering with problematic periods shows there isn't a cause for concern and even if you have something like fibroids etc they are small.

I was having problems with continual and extremely heavy at times bleeding (so flooding through a super tampon and maternity aid in 10 minutes Hmm) so had the ultrasound for that reason.

That's how I was dx with endo and bulkiness shows possible adenomyosis.

Cherry889 · 29/03/2021 12:03

Well I have been for the scan. They have advised everything looks fine but I have fluid in my pelvis but not enough to cause concern.

OP posts:
T1gerEyes · 29/03/2021 17:57

Again, fluid is completely normal in the majority of cases so out that put your mind if you've been told it's fine
