Intensely Itchy Palms at Night!

Has anyone experienced this? At night my palms have been getting extremely itchy! It drives me potty! Sometimes my feet, too, but mostly my palms. No rash, no change in cosmetics or detergents etc.

Could it be due to getting warm at night? I get cheiropompholyx and the itching shows up before the tiny blisters. I make sure that I’m cooler at night, thinner night wear, window open, thinner duvet and it’s much better, worth a try maybe.

Might be good idea to get it checked , might be nothing or possibly a sign of pre diabetes or under active thyroid

Thanks all. Feel silly going to the GP for itchy hands!

Definitely worth checking with GP- could be thyroid or perimenopause I think.

picklemewalnuts · 25/03/2021 18:25

Assuming you've tried handcream, obviously.

Do to hold your phone a lot? That can cause itchy palms

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 26/03/2021 14:41

Hmm, I wouldn't say I hold my phone loads, plus I would expect it to affect one hand more than the other?

Peri-menopause: I'm 37 - when does it start?? My mum had menopause around 55 I think?

It could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? I used to get tingling / pins and needles in my hands at night.

NotquitewhatImeant · 26/03/2021 18:26

I’ve had this for years. I was told once it was because your levels of histamine increase at night (same reason bites get itchy in evening) but I have no idea if that is true.

Borington · 26/03/2021 18:37

Could it be the beginning of a fungal infection (athletes foot but on the hands)?

I had this and there was nothing to see initially, just very itchy.

IdblowJonSnow · 26/03/2021 18:41

I get this too. Perfectly symmetrical on both sides. V odd.

MargosKaftan · 26/03/2021 18:47

Nothing helpful to add, but isn't it an old wives tale that itchy palms meant you were coming into money? Buy a euro millions ticket quick!

Hm2020 · 26/03/2021 19:27

I had this before Christmas and it was a sign of my liver function declining it happens when I have any sort of virus and goes back to normal after I recover but this was the only sign I had didn’t even know I had an infection I started googling and as I’d had some problem with liver function before gp have blood test that showed liver function decline but returned to normal now it probably more likely to be something else if you’ve never had problems before but worth remembering hope you feel better soon it kept me up all night!

Clicked on this because I’ve been getting itchy fingers lately, the inside where it’s softer... got told I have low iron yesterday. Doc said it could be related as itching can be a symptom, just throwing that one in the mix!
