Colonoscopy Question!

I have a colonoscopy tomorrow at 8.30am and have a strange question.

If I do all the prep this evening will my colon still be clean?!

The leaflet (plenty) says I can but the interweb suggests not. A nurse did give me some timings but for the appointment that got postponed that was at a different time of day!

I always have my colonoscopy in the afternoon and I start prep the night before about 6pm and then take the second lot at 6am the day of the procedure. I take picoprep but I’m in Australia so it might be called something different. You dissolve a sachet in a glass of water and then drink several glasses of plain water straight after. I hope this helps.

I had a colonoscopy in November at 930am. I started my prep at 5pm, next dose at 7pm the night before. My consultant said prep was perfect and there were no issues. Good luck. Mix the moviprep with juice- it tastes awful otherwise !! If you need a bit of a sugar hit from fasting i found full sugar 7up was great and didnt interfere with proceedure.

Thank you both! Remaker - yes, googling says next am for second dose but I'd have to get up at about 4am for that! Thanks Redannie118 for that, I am going to copy you!

Yes I think you are better off doing it the night before as even if you managed to do it at 4am (I struggle getting it down at 6!) it would still be touch and go whether you would be “finished” before 8.30. Good luck with it, look forward to the tea and sandwiches afterwards!

I had a colonoscopy in the morning (had to be there eight-ish) and started my prep at one pm the day before. Was nil by mouth from midnight and everything was fine.

I second what @Redannie118 suggests but would avoid any drink that you might like to have again.....3 years since my colonoscopy and I still can't face Fanta!Grin

Thanks all - I'm not looking forward to it all but just focusing on it being over with by this time tomorrow.

I meant to write Plenvu above not plenty... this is the prep I've been given to take!

Where I work we say evening before for the dose before then 5am for morning prep if it’s a morning appointment. Otherwise you’ll be on the loo all night!

For a Saturday afternoon appointment I had to change my diet from Wednesday. Last meal was Friday lunch. I had to drink the gallons of powdered at 6pm on Friday and then a second dose at 7am on Saturday.

My colon was pristine!!! Grin

Good luck with it OP Smile

Thanks everyone for your advice and support. It went ok! I was supposed to start fasting a bit before I did I found it (I never got the big booklet, hence building my own plan...).

However colon was clear and they could do it. They found several polyps and cut them out. I was a bit over the whole thing for the last 15 mins (took an hour overall) but it was all manageable. I just had gas and air.
