From allergic reaction to heart problems?

Hi guys,

I would really appreciate it if anyone may have some ideas on what is going on.

On the 4th of January this year I ate a salmon which I believe has a day after had my body covered with red itchy hives and a swollen face along side cough and wheezing, I went to the a and e who have given me prednisolone, that had reduced the swelling and hives, however I still struggled with a cough and wheezing. Tried cough meds but no luck.

February I decided to go to the walk in centre who believed it may be allergic asthma or seasonal asthma I am having, so prescribed me two inhalers.

Cough and wheezing still remains. (When I laugh, talk a lot, exercise, use chemicals, SLEEP AT NIGHT) I seem to cough and wheeze more.

I have then gone to get an chest x ray which showed a mild heart enlargement 13:24 to be precise. They said it is likely heart failure.

I then had a BNP blood test done which came out normal so then now they saying it is unlikely heart failure as I am not struggling to breathe not have I got swollen ankles and my blood pressure seems ok, and the blood test came out fine.

Now they are confused what to do with me. The doctor at my surgery really said he is confused which is making me lose hope.

I am still coughing wheezing now for three months and have been recently diagnosed with a mild heart enlargement but nothing else.

Please help.

Just so add* I have been given furosemide after the x ray result been taking it for a week and then been told my blood test came out fine so I decided to stop furosemide cos I don’t seem to think I may have fluid in my body

The initial incident sounds like Scromboid poisoning. Not sure about the rest. Sorry you have no answers :(

What does the cardiologist say ?

Lou0820 · 21/03/2021 12:49

They have said they will refer me but then now because the bnp blood test came out nornal they will first send me for breathing excerises and then if that doesn’t work refer me to cardiologist I’m just so confused now, could this be an allergic asthma that I have developed which still has a chronic cough and wheezing? I understand I have a mild heart enlargement could that be from coughing for months? Or is it definitely a heart problem

You could have had the heart enlargement for some time. It’s just you haven’t had it checked before.

Do you have any family history of heart problems ?

DinosaurDiana · 21/03/2021 13:01

One of the symptoms of heart failure is a cough.

Lou0820 · 21/03/2021 13:18

No problems in my family, I understand it’s a symptom of heart failure but my bnp test came out normal and the doctor said it’s unlikely I have heart failure because of the bnp result
