Hello

I’m embarrassed to write this so have name changes

As the title suggest I have genital herpes have done since I was 18 I’m 32 now caught it of my then boyfriend who didn’t have any symptoms or knew he had it.. I genuinely believed that as well. He was only 17 at the time.

For the most part apart from the HORRIFIC first OB from the age of 18-25 I didn’t have a single outbreak and until it came to sex often forgot I even had it.

Then at age 26 I started getting OBs monthly which I think coincided with my period.. they were very minor and I put up with them for about 2 years till I then decided to go on suppression at about ages 28 (where you take two tablets a day ) all was fine and I didn’t have any obs for over a year.

I have had periods of one and off taking suppression since then and last year things seemed to be quite under control without the meds.

However I have now had 4 outbreaks since January! That’s more then I had all year last year!

My last 3 have been 2/3 weeks apart so i started taking suppression again just over a week ago now and last night noticed what I thought was a ingrown hair/spot as it looked different from my usual OBs and was in a different place but I now have leg pain which is making me think I’m quite sure it is an OB. Only Thing that’s making me unsure is it isn’t sore when I wee it doesn’t itch at all and only hurts when I touch it .

I’m worried by this as I am on suppression and I’ve never had an OB whilst on it and also being my 4th one this year wtf!!

I hope someone who knows where I am going through can advise on what works for them not to soothe the OB as it’s very minor and doesn’t hurt but to reduced them all together Blush

Ow are you run down? Baths that aren't too hot, drying yourself with a cool hairdryer. Cotton pants. I sympathise, I found going om the pill helped as I decided not to gave my period as often

Namechange3011 · 19/03/2021 22:24

@TheWashingMachine hmm wouldn’t say I am no .. I’ve gone through really stressful times before and had no break outs so I really dunno why? But this is getting me down.

The years i was break out free i was on the implant I did try that again years ago beflre I went on suppression but I was constantly bleeding so I came off it. I wasn’t it long enough to know if it made a difference.

I have thought about the pill... I’m worried about weight gain though and I suffer from adult acne sometimes so I wouldn’t want to make it worse

I take yasmin, it's good for skin and not much weight gain

Namechange3011 · 19/03/2021 22:38

Do you get any outbreaks at all?

Sometimes when I'm run down, I've had it for 20 years and last year I had a regular outbreaks, almost every few weeks. I know a few other people who have it but don't get outbreaks beside the initial one, I wish I was so lucky. It really gets me down and the outbreaks are so painful.

Namechange3011 · 19/03/2021 23:46

Do you think it was hormone related why you were getting them every few weeks? I can’t remember a time I’ve had as many as this in a row I don’t think I ever had.

Mine aren’t painful they last 3 days most but it still really gets me down. I know someone else who has it who also gets regular outbreaks. I was one of those who didn’t get any for years but seem to not be so lucky now

Feeling your pain as I’ve recently developed this awful disease. I have started taking L-Lysine which is supposed to help. Take a look online and make up your own mind if you think it’s worth a try.
Good luck. X

Research Magnesium and outbreaks. Try taking 400 mg daily of “Doctor’s Best” elemental magnesium glycinate. Don't take magnesium that's not bioavailable eg magnesium oxide. Waste of time and money. Best of luck!
