Sorry if TMI - My dd (aged 4) has a funny smell from down below

she has had this smell for a few weeks now, there is no redness, discharge or soreness though. it is not fishy or especially offensive, just not usual for her.

she is a very private little thing and is easily embarrassed, and doesn't really like talking to new people, let alone be examined by them! i don't want to have to take her to the doctors or health visitor to be examined as she would be mortified.

anyone got any ideas?

(it may well be thrush or similar which i guess i WILL need a doctor to check out for us.)

I think you will have to get her to the GP, whether she is going to be mortified or not. Anything unusual like that needs to be checked out.

My DD1 had something similar (almost 3) and I took her to GP who examined her and did a urine test - there was nothing wrong, he said it was just one of those things and recommended daily tepid baths (better for getting into creases than washes or showers). This did the trick and the smell went. I put it down to the change from wearing very little over the summer to layers of pants, woolen tights, thicker skirts etc over recent weeks.

Hope all is well soon.

Do get her checked. Maybe you could have a little chat with her first to explain that everyone needs to be checked by doctors sometimes, and there's nothing to be embarressed about?

i guess i knew that i would have to take her to the doctors - i will have that chat beforehand though, sazisi!

Kumbyar - how is your DD's problem now. I've just posted a thread because my DD has the same problem and its concerning me. Did you end up going to the doctors?
