Why?
He also takes about twenty minutes to do a poo. What's that about?
He's 7 by the way.

It sounds like constipation - not that I'm medically trained or anything! Is he drinking enough fluids?

Neverenough · 07/11/2007 22:03

Yes could be constipation. Or worms.

Spidermama · 07/11/2007 22:05

He has been wormed recently. He is certainly constipated, but why? He eats really well with plenty of veg. I could give him more fruit, but he also eats lentils and quinoa -- really good stuff.

He has type one diabetes but I'm never sure how much to attribute to this.

Aren't diabetics meant to be really thirsty all the time? I wonder if there is a link to fluids.

Neverenough · 07/11/2007 22:07

Blimey, a 7 year old who eats lentils and quinoa! Respect!
What is the consistency of his stool Spidermama

cornsilk · 07/11/2007 22:08

My ds used to get a lot of constipation and we gave him a spoon of lactulose a day which sorted him out. I'd check with your GP though.

Spidermama · 07/11/2007 22:24

He won't let me near enough to ascertain stool consistency these days neverenough.

Cornsilk, certainly one of the symptoms of undiagnosed T1 diabetes is extreme thirst because they're weeing out all the glucose in their blood but this is sorted out as soon as they begin their insulin regime, otherwise they would waste away in a couple of months.

I try not to always link everything to the T1 but of course that's the worry.

I wonder about coeliac. He's been tested but none the less he shows symptoms.
