Amitriptyline 2 at night

Has anyone been on these tablets? Gp prescribed me 2 at night for back pain. Have been taking them for about 3/4 weeks now.

Past few weeks I have been feeling sooo exhausted and drained all day, I could sleep round the clock!

I know they are a sedative but I don't feel instantly drowsy when I take them, although I did in the first few days, so thought I would be used to them by now.

I've decided not to take my tablet tonight and see how I feel tomorrow during the day.

Just looking to see other people's experiences on them.

Thanks Smile

I had them prescribed for insomnia a few years back. Didn’t notice side effects, but also didn’t find them very effective for me sadly. Good luck

I changed to nortriptyline which is less sedating. I don't know if that could be an option for you?

I'm on 2 at night for sciatic pain. It's knocked the pain on the head completely which is brilliant. I tend to take it early evening and I think it definitely makes me sleep more heavily (always struggle to wake up in the morning) but I don't feel drowsy in the day. I know friends who do, however.

I take mine at 8 pm, they are not out of your system in the morning if you take them too late.

Yes I was too sedated even when I took them early evening. I ended up trying gabapentin which also wasn't for me, then pregabalin and tramadol which help. It's trial and error, definitely worth going back to your gp if it doesn't settle down.

I try to take mine between half six and seven each night or I’m a zombie the next day. Hope you get some relief soon.

I was on them for migraines. They made the migraines better but I couldn’t cope with the constant lethargy and the nightmares and sleep paralysis.
I weaned myself off them gently as you shouldn’t just stop.

I take one at 8pm otherwise I can't work in the morning.
