Pain in hands ( just below each thumb and forefinger and knuckles of middle fingers ) crippling pain ( wakes me up in bed in middle of night ) in hips and burning pain on each thigh ( worsens when it's cold) and crying in pain as can hardly walk in morning ( til naxopren kicks in). Have had numerous MRI's that don't really show any problems, although still awaiting the last results of the one I had mid February. X-ray of hands that don't show anything. Ditto blood tests. Last year my Dr said I'd probably need a knee replacement but subsequent doctors have said the opposite. Apart from those "ailments" I'm generally fit and well ( late 40's) hardly drink, never smoke, not overweight. I'm guessing I'll probably be "fobbed off" with painkillers if this latest MRI doesn't show anything. AIBU to want a diagnosis?

Have you seen a rheumatologist at all? They can be helpful for body pain which isn’t showing anything particular on the scan-particularly if the pain is symmetrical l and r side? As it’s eased by anti inflammatories there could be an inflammatory connection? Has your gp don’t blood tests?

Yes I've had blood tests which didn't show anything. The blood tests/ MRI and X-rays were ordered by the Rheumatologist consultant

It can be so hard when pain doesn’t get a diagnosis, has fibromyalgia been mentioned? Sometimes this is the route once all else is excluded?

KatyMac · 17/03/2021 17:56

What are your actual B12 and D numbers?

So often blood tests are "OK" but actually at the lowest level possible

I have fibromyalgia but raising my B12 & D has changed my life

Frickssake · 17/03/2021 21:14

Ooh thanks Katymac- I can ring the doctors tomorrow ( will the receptionist tell me my levels over the phone do you think? )

I had this and it was vitamin D deficiency! I couldn't believe it could have such an effect. Definitely get them to read out your numbers.

If anything structural has been ruled out and your pain has been going on for some time, please consider checking out an app called Curable.

It works on the mind-body connection and you do need to just run with it, but honestly, I am roughly your age and my long-term (15 yrs+) chronic pain has reduced by about 90% after using the strategies in this app.
