I spend quite a lot of time either on the computer or on my phone due to work ...
just recently my arm is aching like mad when I hold the phone .
Is this Carpel tunnel ?
What can I do to reduce it ?

Are you leaning on a desk? I noticed I had started leaning my wrist against the edge of my desk and it gave me carpal tunnel. You can get wrist "splint" glove things from Amazon which really give a lot of relief. I sleep in one.

I used to have terrible RSI from computer work and much of that was aching arms, from pain referred from unhappy nerves around my neck. The arm pain appeared well before neck pain set in.

If this could be it (and for good muscle health generally) you need a good ergonomic desk set up to protect your posture and regular breaks to avoid static muscles. I find gentle heat and self-massage of trigger points helpful (google that, start gently if you try it).

It could be carpal tunnel but there's a book called 'It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome' because so many people were misdiagnosed.

Also, your employer has a duty of care here, so worth talking to them too.

A few years ago I got a lot of lower arm pain, and realised it was from using the mouse a lot. I literally had to swap hands to use the mouse, took me ages to get the hang of it Grin

I also get shoulder and arm pain if I lean on my elbow, as an OP suggested.

Either way, you need to change your habits a bit. We get pain because of continued small muscle movements. So do some hand stretches every few minutes.

I got tennis elbow from using a mouse. I had to have physio, and I changed to a different sort of mouse.
