Reflux in baby

Hi all, I’m at my wits end. My baby is only 6 weeks old and is suffering with reflux. We’ve had gaviscon which does absolutely nothing. Health visitor suggestion going to GP and asking for other medication as gaviscon does nothing for lots of babies. GP said there is nothing else. After battling with her (she was talking rubbish and clearly didn’t understand reflux in babies) she told me to add gaviscon with reflux milk 🙄 even though it clearly says don’t add with a thickening milk as can cause over thickening of the stomach contents. My question is why are they so reluctant to give anything else? There are other options. What else shall I do? Keep pestering them until they give us what we need. I’m being told to basically suck it up, it’ll get easier when he’s 6 months old.

Hi cupcake fairy, I just came across your post and wondered if you got anywhere with this? I'm in the same kind of situation! The idea of dealing with reflux for months is making me so anxious! Mine is currently 6 weeks, did you manage to find something to improve things?

Thought I'd reply as I have experience with my DD and silent reflux (it's awful). There is medication they can prescribe called Omeprazole. They don't prescribe it willy nilly because ifs a strong medication and they're tiny babies but definitely kick up a fuss about it if Gaviscon isn't working. I actually didn't have great success with Omeprazole but gaviscon worked wonders but every baby is different. The other things I did were to feed smaller amounts but more often, keep DD upright for at least 20 minutes after each feed or until I got a burp (sometimes took 45 mins!) and I tilted her moses basket up slightly with a book. There isn't much else you can do, it's just something you have to ride out until they've developed more - but it does end! I hope this helps.

Omeprozole
Consider dairy intolerance
Give them a dummy after the feed, the sucking can help keep it down.

Ds had silent reflux. We tried gaviscon which achieved nothing except constipation, different brands of milk (useless) and omeprezole (might have helped but no one told me it would get worse before it got better so we didn't persevere long enough). Eventually we got prescribed carobel which is a thickener which doesn't cause constipation. It was magic. You can actually buy it over the counter and I never did figure out why so few people know about it

Another vote for carobel!
