Acyclovir dosage help

Hello, I am currently having a recurrence of genital herpes and it’s very painful.

Spoke to nurse practitioner this morning (telephone appointment) who prescribed a course of 800mg Acyclovir 5 times a day for 5 days.

This seems a very high dose to me! I’m sure in the past I’ve had 400mg 3 times a day.

The patient information leaflet says my dose should be used for Shingles or Chicken Pox.

Any thoughts or help gratefully received!

I had to take it at that level and dose when I had shingles. I also had co-cocodamol as that rash was really painful.

Yes that does help, thank you.

According to the link you posted, I should be taking my 800mg dose 3 times a day for 2 days!
