Newbie question about low foodmap diet

Hello,

I’ve been having stomach issues for a while and after an endoscopy and colonoscopy showing no issues, I’ve decided to give a go to the low foodmap diet and see if I feel an improvement.

My question is this, both garlic and onions are on the ‘no’ category.

However, can I use them to make a beef stew but then not eat them?

I don’t know if whatever they release while cooking would have the same effect as if I was actually eating them.

Thanks!

Have you had any other investigations? What are your symptoms?
You really need support from a dietitian for the fodmap diet.

I have a ‘feeling’, wouldn’t describe it as pain on my upper left abdomen, right under the ribs, where the stomach is.

It started like 3 years ago, when I was consuming a lot of kefir, I think it may have been too much.

I think it’s gas related, I mainly feel it in bed at night and most times I feel it and literally seconds later I pass wind. It also goes away if I change position (which is the fist question my GP asked)

I stopped eating onions a few months ago and it’s improved.

I also have phlegm at the back of my throat (sorry!) every morning and a constant nose drip, that’s why I think it might be a food intolerance that makes me gassy.

When they performed the endoscopy they confirmed I’m not gluten or lactose intolerant.

Thanks!

Did they test for H pylori? Hope the diet can help you.

I think I remember seeing that on the report as negative.

will double check though

thanks!
