Slipped disc pain is private MRI worth it?

Woke up two weeks ago in agony. On range of painkillers to keep pain under control. I need to be at work as I am a teacher. I am paying for private physio who says no need for MRI until and unless pain isn't resolved in a few months! Is this really best way to go? I can't imagine being like this for 12 weeks. Would MRI help in getting epidural injections or is it just a case of suffer for a while first?

An MRI will show the level of damage and surely be able to better decide your treatment. I had no idea the severity of my slipped disc until the MRI - i was operated on within weeks it was so bad and that was on the NHS.
