Fibromyalgia or something else?

Hi,

I was diagnosed with fibro some years back. No other tests were done to rule out other things. I just described symptoms and gp said sounds like fibromyalgia and that was that. I also have ibs diagnosed same way. Should I go to my new gp and insist on further testing or accept it's fibromyalgia as the symptoms do point to it?

My symptoms are

  • pain all over that comes and goes but at it's worst I struggle to walk
  • feeling exhausted.
  • hot flushes/feeling super cold
-needing loo frequently -headaches
  • I also have depression and anxiety.
I'm so fed up. Feel like I'm existing not living.

General blood tests are done to rule out things like anaemia, thyroid, vit d deficiency, inflammation levels etc. There's something else they look at, but I can't remember the name. Something to do with cortisone. If that is all negative, you get diagnosed with Fibro 🤷🏼‍♀️

My surgery will email me test results, you could ask for yours and see what was done.

I've started a thread called CHRONIC PAIN, accepting your diagnosis on this board. We're hoping to get a chronic pain board on MN, so all related posts are going to be called CHRONIC PAIN to see if there is a need.

Are you taking any medication?

Fibromyalgia is usually a diagnosis when everything else has been ruled out. Without testing thyroid, iron, vitamins, full blood count etc that’s a negligent diagnosis. You need to go back and push for some proper tests. Even though it’s the last thing you feel like doing Sad

I would ask for a referral to a rheumatologist.

You need to go back. Especially if your need to go to the toilet has changed. Please insist on a full urine and blood panel, including autoimmune, kidney and liver, and thyroid, and don’t be fobbed off. Also get B12 and iron checked.
I’m not saying something more is wrong with you, but your symptoms could point to a number of issues, and it should be properly investigated.
If your GP is useless, change GPs, you need someone who takes you seriously. If you do change, try to get a recommendation. Best of luck.

Just to add NICE guidelines also say IBS should not be diagnosed until coeliac disease has been tested for.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to talk to the new gp x

It could be coeliac disease. It can cause a whole host of symptoms.
