Laser eye treatment - can you get it done more than once?

Has anyone had it done, is it worth it?

My neighbour got her eyes lasered for the first time about 4 years ago. It worked well on one eye, but not so well on the other and she still needed glasses for some things. This year she had that eye lasered again for free by the same doctor, and now she has perfect vision. I don't know why she waited 4 years in between.

I am thinking of getting it done, but wonder if it will make my eyesight even worse than it would have been twenty years down the line
