Wrist and hand pain?

For nearly a week, I’ve had pain in my wrist and the top of my hand. When I move it a certain way, the pain shoots from my wrist right across the top of my hand. I have googled to try and figure out what it is to try and find the best way to fix it but I cannot find anything that fits. Everything is either pain in the palm of your hand, thumb pain or numbness/tingling in the hand/fingers. My pain is purely in my wrist and top part of my hand and is a shooting pain. The pain is worse at night. I’ve been taking ibuprofen but it doesn’t really do much and I don’t know if it’s worth seeing a doctor or not. Anyone have any idea what it might be and the best way to help ease the pain?

could it be any form of RSI?

I wouldn't say shooting pain, but I can get aches in those areas. I have a history of RSI and propensity to get osteoarthritis at some point.

I should add that it’s my left wrist and I’m right handed so no idea how I could have injured it or overused it

Carpal tunnel syndrome? I used to have mild symptoms during pregnancy.

Carpal tunnel? I think I have this but doesn't quite fit some of the descriptions, but I've heard anecdotally from people who have it that I can vary. Mine hurts if I twist, if I put pressure on with my wrist flexed (eg like a push up) or on very bad days, simply from holding my hand out unsupported! I bought a carpal tunnel wrist support from Amazon and it has really been helping.

I originally thought carpal tunnel but I don’t seem to have the symptomatic tingling or numbness but yes, it hurts most when my hand is twisted, has pressure put on it or is flexing. For example drying off after a shower when I’m moving my hands in different directions, I get the shooting pains. When I’m just sitting not moving it, I do feel a “pain” but maybe a 2/10 but then the actual shooting pain goes to about an 8/10. I might look into a splint, is it worth trying that before I see my GP?

I don't have tingling or numbness either, Altho I have noticed recently that when I type or ride my bike for long periods my right hand gets very cold and I can lose strength in it. I would say try the splint first as the GP options seem to be splint, steroid injection, or surgery if it's really bad
