Retainers causing cracked lip corners - any suggestions?

Hi DS18 needs to wear his retainers but when he does he wakes up with sore cracked lip corners. If he doesn't wear the retainers, they clear up.
All I can think of is vaseline, but it doesn't seem to be much use.
Any suggestions? Thanks

lansinoh nipple balm.

My brother used Lanolin when his were bad from accutane. We had to buy it for him though as he was too embarrassed to buy nipple cream
