Tooth implants, not enough bone?

Hi i will need an implant but the dentist has said there is not much bone density. what happens with this as I've read about grafts?

I don't really understand why i don't have bone or where it's gone. and have to wait two weeks to see the specialist. :(

Hello, from what I understand (not a dentist) when your tooth is removed the bone is reabsorbed by the body because there is no longer a tooth there, so you lose bone in that place which is needed to place an implant. You can also lose bone for other reasons such as gum disease, tooth infections so depends why you lost your teeth. Many times they can place a graft which would hopefully be successful so you can have an implant placed.
Hope this helps!

I had what sounds like a similar problem - thin bone above the implant. After I had the extraction, the socket area was packed with a granular bone mix substance and allowed to heal for some months before placing the implant socket.

It just means the whole process takes a longer spread of time and adds to the cost - it’s not invasive and doesn’t affect you systemically ( as a medication would) For a while after the whole process was complete, I would get the occasional tiny granular fragment appearing in my mouth.

I have implants and fixed teeth on my lower jaw but apparently I didn't have enough bone on my upper jaw to fix teeth onto so I have had to have a denture which fixes onto 4 implants. Its annoying and I dont like it but I was told there was no alternative in my case. Got used to it now but take them out at night to give my mouth and gums a rest
