Worrying mole? Pic included

Disclaimer - I have filled in an online consultation with my GP describing the mole to see if I need it looked at in person.

I first noticed a dark freckle/small mole on my leg when I was shaving. Probably before the winter but I can’t remember. I thought it looked like an ingrown hair so left it alone.

I’ve noticed within the last few weeks that it’s kind of spread to form 2 connecting moles and that one part almost looks like it’s going to bleed. It doesn’t itch and it’s not sore.

I’m not really concerned as I’ve been fairly careful with my skin, but I did burn a few times in my late teens and used a sun bed a few times in my early 20s. No family history of skin cancer that I’m aware of.

I’m mainly curious if others would have this checked out or am I wasting the Drs time?

I should hear whether the dr will see me in 48hrs

Pic attached I hope, please ignore the stubble Blush

Get it checked. Had a similar one ( side of head) and it was biopsied and fine but get yours looked at.

Thank you, I hate the thought of wasting the drs time but my gut feeling was to get it checked.

I can’t talk to my surgery on the phone anymore, online forms only, which I have done. So I guess I have to wait and see if and when they’ll see me!

I would check. But I've had a precancerous one removed and I am susceptible because I've had chemo

perfectcomposure · 01/03/2021 10:41

looks like folliculitis from shaving. I have one on my arm. Very annoying.

perfectcomposure · 01/03/2021 10:42

and no I would not bother the GP about that at all. If I had that I would not give it a second thought.

It’s never been itchy or pus filled, but something like that would be a relief!

I had a mole on the back of my shoulder that became really itchy, saw gp who didn't think it was anything serious but within 2 weeks had a hospital appointment and removal, my gp said to me it's always advisable to get moles checked out if there's any change to one so you are doing the right thing

Sooverthemill · 01/03/2021 11:52

Yes a decent GP won’t mind checking it out even if it’s ‘nothing’

I finally have an appointment today which is good because it’s grown a bit since my first post. Just keeping updated because I’ve been searching old threads for information and appreciate updates and photos! Attached is the first photo I took 6 weeks ago and one I took today.

I’m fairly sure it’s nothing sinister but as I have family history of melanoma I’m going to play it safe.

Annoyingly the photos are the wrong way round! The brighter pic is the first one!

I only found out my grandad died young of skin cancer (I was a young child) when I mentioned it to my mum and she had a bit of a panic. I always thought he died of leukaemia but apparently that was a secondary cancer to a melanoma. However he did live in Saudi Arabia for 10+ years and also Singapore. So his sun exposure was much higher than mine.

Good luck today, OP. I have one a bit like that (two sort of freckles that joined up) and it's been checked numerous times bit of a worrier and it's always been fine.

Tullyjune · 07/04/2021 13:56

Thank you, I have convinced myself it’s nothing and I feel absolutely awful taking up a face to face appointment during covid, but my mum is on my case and has my DH as an ally. I nearly cancelled a few times but I figured once I’ve been they can all stop hassling me!

I am more worried the Dr they’ve given me is going to tell me off for wasting his time, he’s a rather severe old school type.

The Dr took photos with a special lens that attached to an iPhone. He is sending them to a dermatologist for further review. Not sure if or when I’ll hear anything else!

OP, it's not a waste of your GP's time to look at this and decide whether it might be a problem or not. That is what the GP is for. And clearly it's a good job you went in, since your GP isn't sure either.

Tullyjune · 09/04/2021 17:29

I’ve been referred to the hospital now. Unsure if it’s under 2 week urgent or routine. I’m waiting for a letter. Seems the dermatologist wasn’t sure from the picture.

Beginning to feel like Ross in that episode of Friends.... it’s fancier than a pimple!
