No fasting blood tests ?

Dh is having fairly standard pre-diabetic symptoms (but could be something else):

Drinking gallons of water - without it gets terrible headaches
Exhausted
Terrible feet - cracked/dry/sunken toenails/bleeding
Blood sugar crashing and shaking

He is thin and fit. Type 2 Diabetes runs in his family. This has been going on for years - typical bloke, has to get it really bad before going to docs.

He had a blood test earlier and the nurse said to him he could have had his breakfast as they don't do fasting blood tests - just compare to an average Confused

But they're not testing him again - so comparing him to a population average ?

Any medics help me understand this ?

I imagine they mean the HbA1c test. It examines the red blood cells to work out the average blood glucose levels over the past 2-3 months. Therefore it gives a better picture, rather than a random one of glucose level in one particular blood sample.

Off, not of.

Thank you 🙏 - had no idea that was even possible

I wonder why they stopped asking people to fast - is it a new test ?

My dh had to fast at his previous blood test, so you do still need to for some of them. One of his tests was for diabetes.
