Recurring Thrush linked to copper coil

I just thought I'd share my experience, as I found coming to mumsnet very useful a few weeks ago when I was suffering badly with thrush. I'm only sharing my story, and I'm only 1 person, but maybe this might help someone. About a year ago I started suffering with terrible thrush. I'd had it rarely previously, but this was so much worse. Looking back I had other symptoms too. My husband was convinced it was linked to me getting a coil, which I'd had fitted about 3 years ago. I wasn't sure, and my doctor was adamant that there couldn't be a link. I was taking pills, using the pessaries, going through tubes of canesten. Had to use a condom for sex as otherwise husband suffered too. He took the meds as well just in case... So at xmas I had the coil taken out, and overnight it all stopped. Completely. Some other symptoms which I now think were also related: periods lasted longer, period blood was browner, my knickers all started to disintegrate (weird!?), more period pain. So I think I must have been reacting really badly to the copper coil. I share this just in case it resonates with anyone else who is suffering. Of course now we have to worry about other methods of contraception, but for me it's been the best thing I could have done.
