Back of head throbbing

I’ve been having this weird thing where the back of my head throbs/pulsates, it feels like the blood vessels are really throbbing. It’s not painful as such but it feels debilitating, like you feel if you are dizzy. It comes and goes, painkillers don’t seem to affect it, nor cold packs. When I lay down I can really feel/hear my heart beat pulsating in my ear. I do suffer with migraines so I wonder if this is just a new type of migraine for me? It comes and goes a lot quicker than a migraine would though, might only last half an hour, or half hour on, half hour off kind of thing. Anyone had similar and know what it could be?

No, not something I have had. However, it does sound like something that needs to be checked out with some urgency. Hope someone with better knowledge comes along soon but in the meantime, why not call 111? They sometimes take a while to call back so you would be getting the ball rolling.

I’d give 111 a call, and check in with GP.

However, suspect it may be caused by tightness in neck and shoulders - so may be an osteopath you need in the end.

Thank you for the concern. I have had a phone appointment with my GP who seems to think it is neck related as you say partyatthepalace he has given me exercises and I’m supposed to be going for a blood test. That was last week though and the neck exercises did seem to be helping a little, I’m getting it a bit less than I was. Perhaps you’re right and I should book in with an osteopath, they might be able to do something that works quicker than the neck exercises.
