I've been taking them for about 10 days and had diarrhoea for about a week, could it be a side effect of the magnesium? I'm going to stop taking it for a bit just to see

i took them for a while but they made me feel sick.
In france they do a high magnesium mineral water called Hepar which the old folks drink to help them shit. I didnt know this until I had some while breastfeeding and both me and baby had the explosive runs

Hi, it's a known side effect of magnesium supplements. Sometimes changing which type of magnesium (oxide, citrate, etc.) can help as it's sometimes because your body is not absorbing the magnesium. Reducing the dose can also help.

ThePricklySheep · 26/02/2021 11:25

I recently found out that they are used as a laxative, when I was Googling the dose. I didn’t know that before then. That was magnesium citrate.

Ridingthegravytrain · 26/02/2021 11:26

If you are taking citrate you may find glycinate is less irritating

DareIask · 26/02/2021 11:27

It's a warning on the box I've got

redcandlelight · 26/02/2021 11:28

anything above 300mg magnesium can affect digestion.
not sure how much is in your supplement.

InMySpareTime · 26/02/2021 13:59

I take magnesium but also liquid iron. I think they cancel each other out stool-wise.

Eloisedublin123 · 26/02/2021 22:51

Yeah I’ve had that for sure op

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/02/2021 07:39

Yeah I'm taking it. I was advised by a neurologist to take it for migraine. I also suffer from constipation and have been taking laxatives for several months. Since starting on the magnesium, I haven't needed any laxatives apart from the time I forgot to take it.

The neurologist also told me that many people in the UK are deficient in magnesium.

canon2020 · 27/02/2021 11:03

There are several variants, which are you using?

Chillihat · 27/02/2021 11:04

Much better to use magnesium that you spray on the skin. No side effects and better absorption.

RavingAnnie · 27/02/2021 12:06

I take magnesium partly to help me go!

It also helps with my muscle pain and cramps.

mildlymiffed · 27/02/2021 12:08

I take magnesium glycenate to help with insomnia at bedtime. And yes... it makes me quite ahem... loose!

Thought about reducing the dosage by half?
canon2020 · 28/02/2021 21:08

I read somewhere that is what should be in done in such circs. YMMV.

mildlymiffed · 01/03/2021 15:18

What is ymmv? Yes, I may try halving it, as the runs is getting a bit annoying!
