Failed root canal

So I had both stages of my root canal in November/December and then the permanent filling done in January. It’s failed. I noticed a problem in spring LAST YEAR and it took me such a long time to have it seen because the dentist kept fobbing me off and didn’t put me on the waiting list like they said they would.

I only knew there was a problem because a sinus tract had formed and was draining, it didn’t even hurt. NOW it fucking hurts. The gum doesn’t, but it’s so so sore when I press almost like, the bottom of my cheekbone through my gum... if that makes sense.

I’m pretty resigned to the fact that the infection has spread to my jawbone and I’m going to need a ton of antibiotics. Can’t be seen until the 9th. Going to be trying the joy of teaching whilst on codeine until then.

I don’t even know why I’m posting. Just to complain. I’m going to phone the dentist again tomorrow and try and get something earlier. There’s no swelling and I don’t have a temperature but I AM SO DONE WITH THIS.

Not to mention the fact that I’ll have to have another root canal probably and the last one nearly gave me an aneurism from anxiety.

Hey, what tooth is it? Definitely ring up and see if there are any appointments available before that.

year5teacher · 28/02/2021 21:13

@TheBookworm88 my second molar. It doesn’t hurt anymore, but I’m still going to keep my appointment.

The dental hospitals are still doing emergency treatment. I phoned Friday as I was halfway through treatment for gum disease when lockdown hit. I just rang to check and apparently the clinicians are out doing jabs, but I can get in if the pain gets too bad.

You might need a specialist root canal expert. I have one and he has the latest technology that ordinary jack of all trades dentists don’t have. Sometimes root canals are so narrow they need to use a microscope while they do the cleaning out. It’s still not guaranteed but usually is. This might be why it hasn’t worked. I feel your pain but please don’t wait. Dentist will need to refer you.

Mine resolved itself. It flares up occasionally then settles back down again.

Hi can you message me, im in the same position, im having panic attacks about it, i had a failed root canal retreated in November, and it been feeling dodgey, is it tender to bite on, and does it hurt to press the sinus tract?
