probably not

TheWobblyGoddess · 03/11/2007 15:29

sell by or eat by?
they'll probably be fine.

Hekate · 03/11/2007 15:30

Nah. They'll be fine.

What was the USE-BY date? Sell by is just when it can't be in the shop any more. Use by is when you aren't supposed to eat it - but tbh, these aren't a hard and fast rule either.

Neverenough · 03/11/2007 15:30

No nothing you can do-they'll either be fine (which is likely since presumably they didn't reject it for tasting off or looking unappetising) or they'll develop vomiting and/or diarrhoea which will probably be self-limiting.
Use-by dates are fairly conservative. How old are they?

Carbonel · 03/11/2007 15:33

Thanks, feeling slightly less worried. I was all for hotfooting it to A & E!

It was definitley the use by date; kids are 4 and 6

Nothing you can do. If it smelled ok and tasted ok then it very likely was ok. Tomato and cheese aren't foods that go horribly off - bet there was some sugar in the sauce acting as a preservative or something. (not an expert, just guessing)

Neverenough · 03/11/2007 15:37

In that case, since they are old enough to tell you if it wasn't nice-it was probably fine!

Gledhill · 03/11/2007 15:54

Supermarkets put dates on to cover their backs, lots of food is ok well after the date... they'll be fine

Carbonel · 03/11/2007 15:58

Phew!

Thanks - I'll let dh out of the doghouse now

Altho I hope he gets sick
