Anyone have any experience with melanoma?

I had a mole removed a couple of weeks ago. The doctor at the time said he didn't think it looked like anything suspicious, and if it was nothing then I wouldn't hear anything back. I received a letter today saying I need to come back in a months time regarding the biopsy. There were no other details given but I was told to bring someone with me.

Does this mean they are likely going to tell me it's a melanoma? Is there any other situation where they may want me to come back? Anyone had a similar experience!

Thanks x

DP has had a malignant melanoma. In his case the consultant doing the biopsy said it looked to possibly be one. He was called back very quickly for a wider area to be removed and lymph biopsies. He was not asked to bring anyone with him to any appointments, or at least if he was, he ignored it! No further action but regular follow ups. If it was melanoma I doubt you'd be asked back in a month, unless they are confident it has been completely removed. But I'd worry in your position, is there a number on the letter you can call and ask for some info?

Try contacting your GP and explaining what you're worrying about. Presumably they should have the results x

I’d be very surprised if they’d be making you wait a month for that diagnosis.

Agree with others that it would be unusual. My sister had melanoma last year. She was told the results over the phone and was booked in for her wide local excision pretty quickly (all good now Smile).
