Body hair baldness

I noticed back in 2016, my legs were very smooth and it was months since I last shaved them. There were bald patches on my legs. Not only was there a bald patch on my legs, there was a bald patch in my pubic hair.

I know many people would think I'm lucky to experience baldness in these areas and to some degree the legs are not a problem. I do prefer a fuller pubic area.

I went to the doctor and bloods were done. Thyroid, hormones. Everything came back clear. The results did show low iron and I was told to take iron.

I did take iron but I was never consistent in taking iron. My diet improved greatly since then too. I don't know what my levels are like now.

I'm still experiencing the body hair balding.

My fear is that this will move onto my scalp. I haven't noticed bald patches on my scalp but then I don't know what's at the back of my head. I can only see what's in the mirror. I noticed a thinning of my hair.

Has anyone else experienced balding patches on their bodies? Did it move onto the scalp?

I have a couple of patches on my legs that no longer grow hair. As you say, it’s actually useful. I know what caused mine: sunburn a few years back! It hasn’t spread to other areas of my body and I’m fairly sure it wouldn’t as only my legs were irritated by the sun.

Hair loss has many causes, from stress, aging, indirect side effect from health conditions, sensitivity to products, genetics etc. It’s definitely worth having a chat with another GP if you’re concerned. With hair loss, the only product that really helps is minoxidil - there have been various studies supporting its efficacy, but not much research for other products

How old are you? Body hair loss is normal due to the change in hormones.

I'm late 30s. I found the baldness on the legs in my early 30s.

I haven't a clue what the baldness is from. I went through intense stress and none of it was of my own making and it came from all different angles

-bad dating life
-bad sibling relationship and a suspicion of a cluster b personality in the sibling and that was very stressful and still is.

  • work related stress
  • an aging parent

I'm not very concerned as such. I don't think there is a bald patch on my scalp and is my main worry. I am experiencing thinning and I am worried it might progress to baldness on the scalp.

Intense stress can cause hair loss, search for telogen effluvium. The good thing is you’ll never go bald with hair loss, and it’s only temporary so your hair will recover

Never go bald with telogen effluvium *

Are they bald on the outer sides? Mine went like this too. It happens most commonly with older men, over 60! For me it started at 30 also.

I have a b12 deficiency. I have little to no body hair. Never shaved anything. I do have hair on my head.

Do you wear skinny jeans a lot?

Have you asked for your actual thyroid results? What the NHS says is ok and what actually is (when they even test properly) are two different things.
