Any phlebotomists help please.

I had a blood test last Thursday.
I noticed when he inserted the needle, there was blood running down my arm.
This hasn’t happened before.
I’ve had pain since radiating down my arm and when I rotate it, it’s quite painful. The whole area that is bruised very tender too.
I’ve not had this happen before. It was a CEA blood test if that helps x

I’m not a phlebotomist but my arm always looks like yours when I have a blood test. They always find it hard to find the vein and it takes ages. I get really bad bruising which takes ages to fade. I’ve never had blood running down my arm though!

He didn’t have a problem finding a vein.
I’ve never had bruising or pain before like this though x

I'm a doctor and that's happened to me before after bloods. Nothing to worry about. It'll feel better in a week or so

How's your arm feeling now?

You can apply ice for 15 minute intervals abs that ought to help a bit. Basically, you’ve sprung a leak into the tissues surrounding the area. Probably didn’t compress the area for long enough after the blood test, or did too much with the arm afterwards. It happens. It’s nothing to worry about.
