Itchy shins!!

Does anyone else suffer with itchy shins in the winter? I shave my legs the same as in the summer but seem to end up with small red bumps that itch like crazy during the winter months! Any advice on keeping these at bay and stop me looking like a crazed woman clawing at my legs !

Yes. Make sure you shave your legs in a warm room and moisturise straight after! If it's a cold room the bumps will be worse

I get this too. No red bumps (ingrown hairs? shaving rash?), but seriously itchy lower legs and only in winter. Drives me to distraction at night. I’ve taken to slathering on the E45 cream before bed which helps a bit, but Dr Google reckons it’s a circulation thing, which I suppose makes sense as to why it only happens during colder months

Mine isn’t related to shaving as I cba unless my legs are going to be on show (and there’s zero chance of that happening in anything but summer)

I get this too and it's not related to shaving. Seems to be worse with hormones but don't understand why.

Get your iron and vit d levels checked

Ah, the circulation thing would make sense for me. I really struggle with retaining heat during the winter months and all my lower extremities and hands just stay cold from October through til April ! I used to slather the E45 in my teenage years (40 now!) And honestly forgot how effective it is. Will 'treat' myself this weekend to a pot.

Thats interesting, is there a correlation to this then? I've been taking a high dose of Vit D as recovering from Covid, however have always suffered with this ( for at least the last 7 to 10 years)

Thank you 3wheels. Possibly hormone related... I was diagnosed with PCOS around 3 years ago, but issues before. Very interesting putting it out there and seeing whether anyone else suffers. Its just one of those ailments you learn to accept/anticipate every year but hate the way I end up scratching up my legs !

My legs itched terribly at night for no reason that I could see, I got a blood test and was low in both, given supplements and was fine, can always tell when my iron is low now though! Hope you get it sorted

Thank you omg35, will try that with some E45🤞

This happens to me in the winter as I drive with the hot air blasting my legs to get warm in car! Just a thought could it be that?

Tanfastic · 12/02/2021 21:02

I've had one itchy shin for the past few days. I've put it down to the cold weather, not moisturising and my legs being covered all the time. My shins do seem quite scaly and dry and my hands are also like this in winter.

I've slathered on Eurex cream tonight on the itchy part and that's done the trick.

thecognoscenti · 12/02/2021 21:45

I get this!! I think it's a combination of cold weather and the car heater blasting onto my shins. It's not so bad this year because I'm driving so much less than usual. Intensive moisturiser does help, when I can be bothered to put it on

CrotchetyQuaver · 12/02/2021 22:05

I find it goes if I moisturise them. I'm a bit lazy about doing that regularly
