I am weighing more on the scales ,but I am not eating more .Is this water retention ? What is it like to get hungry on this medicine ?Does it get uncontrollable? Don't want to put on weight. Thanks

Yes it can be water retention. Also with the food cravings you’ll know. I thought about food constantly and get really moody if I didn’t have food. Be aware of the steroid moon face you are likely to bloat if your on then a while .

Following your thread (but no advice for you, sorry). I'm just about to start weaning off 20mg, and I'm hoping the moonface goes soon. I'm pregnant and have put on a stone in the first trimester (which I think is down to the pred but I'm also taking progesterone too, which probably doesn't help).

I've read the moonface starts to go when you're down to 10mg, so I'll keep you posted.

Do you know how long you'll be on it for?

Hi Daffodil. Gp suspects Scleroderma and trialling me on this before I see rheumatologist .Hopefully not too many more weeks. I'm on 40mg per day. No moonface luckily.Don't want to take steroids,but have to really.Feel lethargic and not sleeping well.Hope pregnancy goes well.

Yes it does aslong as you don’t go overboard. I was on them for a few months and I got the moon face and my calves swelled up. After I finished them it went luckily.

I had steroids on chemotherapy and I put on weight because I ate a lot and barely moved for three months, the weight dropped off within a month.
I later ended up on prednisolone for RA - between 5 and 10mg. It hasn't really affected my weight or appetite but my goodness it's difficult to come off it. I've been trying to reduce it from 5mg to zero and it's taken three months to get down to 3mg.

How long have you been in them for? I got moonface after about 2 months and gained weight. I started on 50 and dropped by 5 every month initially then 2.5 per month when I reached 20mg and by 1 after 10mg - using alternative days - first week 10 mg for 6 days and 9mg for 1 then 10mg for 5 days and 9mg for 2 etc

I'm currently on 5 and still have moonface it's takes a long time to come off them
Depending on the time you've been on them.

Been on them a couple of weeks. Going up about an kg a day.Definitely not eating more.If anything eating less.Thanks for responses.

I don't think the drug itself causes weight gain as such but it can cause fluid retention as well as increased appetite and sleeplessness.
Could it be bloating due to fluid?

It could be bloating.I need to urinate more than usual.Drink a lot of tea ,always have.Thankyou.
