High vit b12 levels

Dd has had a blood test the other day as has been feeling quite unwell for some time now. The dr surgery rang today to say she’s got abnormal high levels and needs to urgently see a dr. So she has an appt for next week.

I’ve googled and am now freaking out as it says diabetes, leukaemia or liver disease. Has anyone any experience of similar and being ok?

Just bumping in the hope someone can come along and put your mind at rest.
How old is she? Has she been taking any supplements/vitamins?
I hope the Dr can reassure you next week Flowers

Thank you.

She started taking vit b12 supplements but only 2 weeks ago and only the normal over the counter dose. So I find it hard to believe her levels could have been raised in that time?

She’s a strict vegetarian and pretty much vegan and also coeliac so has a very limited diet....her b12 levels should be lower than normal!

Of course they will. Didn't you tell your GP she'd taken vit B12 supplement when the practice called.

High levels of B12 are fine (and expected) if you supplement.

I didn’t say anything as she’s 19yo so they don’t talk to me. They’re abnormally high, like off the scale high. Over 900. She didn’t say anything as it was a receptionist that rang .

I can’t imagine 2 weeks of a standard dose has raised it that much. Even with over the counter stuff if the body is functioning normally excess levels are excreted out.

I’m surprised 900 is considered very high, I would have thought at most borderline high, people have figures well over 1000. Then she’s being supplementing, even if for a short time, they could have pushed the numbers up quickly. Just wait for the GP appointment next week and go from there. I would like to say don’t worry but I know it’s hard to do with our own children even if grown up.

Thanks, yes will just have to wait and see. Sounds like they want to repeat the blood test next week as well.
