Pain in groin

Inpain123 · 04/02/2021 12:28

I started getting a pain yesterday in my right groin area-just to the left of my hip and slightly down. It’s a dull ache most of the time but when I laugh, sneeze, bend over or (sorry too much information!) do a poo, it is more like a sharp pain. I tried to get a doctors appointment today but had no luck. Will try again tomorrow. Does anyone have any ideas/advice in the meantime?

Also, not sure if it’s relevant/psychological, but I am needing to go to the toilet more often.

Hi @Inpain123
I'm glad you are getting it checked out by a doctor.
In the meantime have a Google about the piriformis muscle and the psoas muscle and see if you can pinpoint the painful area. There are so many muscles that connect the spinal column to the hip that relate to the pelvic girdle.
There are many nerves coming from the spine and lower sacrum threading through to the hip joint that could be getting inflamed from a tight muscle
Some people carry tension in their pelvic floor instead of their shoulders. Strange but very painful.
I hope this helps....if the GP rules out any organ issues then the problem may be muscular and physiotherapy and deep massage can help to release those muscles...when you look at the images of the psoas muscle you will see how deep down in the groin area it is so the therapist will need to really massage that area off the crest of the right hip. It is very painful, but is about the only way to get the muscles to release.
Side note: have you been lying down more than usual? Sitting in a different chair, worn a different pair of shoes than you normally wear, seating in an awkward position whilst driving and pressing the gas peddle? Every one of these things can irritate this area.
I'm sorry to rattle on. I've had a similar issue and I can truly sympathise.
Hope this helps.
Good luck at the DrFlowers

Thank you so much for your help. I’ve googled those muscles and I’m not 100% sure but it’s possibly the psoas muscle. I haven’t been doing a huge amount more lying down than normal no. Can’t think of any particular changes to footwear or anything else like that. Have taken ibuprofen today and it’s helped a little. Hoping I will be able to get a doctors appointment tomorrow 🤞

Hi @Inpain123
Hope you are all sorted and pain freeFlowers

Thank you! The doctor didn’t seem too worried about it-said it was likely to be either a urine infection or a muscle strain. Obviously this was all over the phone though! Was supposed to be taking in a urine sample today but the snow has prevented that. The pain is still there but not as bad so hoping I’m on the mend.
