Hi all,
I am 46 and having some menopausal symptoms so my doctor sent me for a scan to check womb and internals I guess, went today and it was a normal ultrasound and an internal but when she did the internal she asked me if I had IBS, which I probably do but never had diagnosed, so I asked how she could see that and she said something about my intestines being all .... I didn't get this part and was wondering if anyone knows? I know I should have asked there and then but I wasn't there for that reason and COVId appts was quite stressful

All I know is that ultrasound cannot diagnose ibs. It is only done to see that if you have symptoms of ibs then it is not your liver or gallbladder that is causing symptoms. May be she saw some gas shadows (can be caused by many reasons) and assumed IBS and was conforming from you. You can always ask your surgery receptionist for a copy of the report.

Did she say she seen bowel gas? I have been getting told this for a few years on u/s scans that they can't see certain things properly because of excessive bowel gas and often ask if I have IBS!
