Lump on back of ear :(

Hello everyone!

I've found a lump on the back of my ear (i.e. On the actual cartiledge) which is a little uncomfortable when I touch it. From what I can see using mirrors it's not red or scabby etc, it's just a lump under the skin. Has anyone had this before? Can you have lymph node swelling on the back of your ear (rather than on the head behind your ear)?

I'm totally panicking and trying not to do too much Dr Googling, but looking for some reassurance (will call the GP tomorrow to see if I can see someone at some point, although not been successful so far for other issues!

Thank you

Are you sure it’s not just a spot? I get hard lumps on the backs of my ears occasionally, and that’s all they are. Need a good squeeze.

Easier said than done, but do not panic! It will almost certainly be harmless. Worth a check, of course, but the chance of it being anything sinister are vanishingly small!

Get someone to take a photo of it beforehand as they will likely ask you for that on a phone cons. Or check your GP's website you may be able to do an e cons where you fill in the info and they call you back. I had a weird patch in an awkward place and wish I'd known about the photo as by the time I was on the phone with GP I was on my own and had to do weird contortions to try and get a v blurred shot.

Sounds like a cyst if it is a hard lump

Longtimettc · 03/02/2021 23:04

Thank you all for your responses & the tip on having someone take a photo of it before calling the GP.

I don't think it's a spot as it's fairly large & doesn't seem to have a head - it's oval and hard. Hoping that it is just a cyst as suggested Smile

I had one a couple of years ago and it was a cyst. As soon as I had appointment with gp is disappeared. It comes back every so often .

What's a cyst?

Soon2BeMrs · 04/02/2021 11:36

Sorry I meant a lymph node not a cyst. Mine felt really hard and didn't move. Dr referred for a scan as she was worried but the dr who done the scan told me there abs then it was a lymph node

Longtimettc · 04/02/2021 11:51

Was your lymph node on the back of your ear (i.e. On the cartiledge) or behind your ear on your head?

Ugh, I've spent all morning ringing and when I finally got through their list for the day was full, so I've to try again tomorrow! I hate waiting with things like this.

Mine was at the top on the Cartledge. Is yours painful, mine was quite sore to touch

dazzlinghaze · 04/02/2021 14:36

I've had this a few times and they were cysts. After a week or so I was able to burst them by squeezing them even though I couldn't see a head. They were a bit sore to touch.
