Shingles around the eye - any advice

9 replies

Jjcrackers · 28/01/2021 15:47

I have shingles around my forehead and eye - as confirmed by a&e last night. I am on anti virals and had my eye checked by ENT but still worried about complications.

Does anyone have any sense of when I will be in the ‘safe zone’ (rash started Tuesday morning)?

Also is there anything I can do to reduce the swelling of my eye?

Thank you.

Those anti virals work pretty well - I had shingles for the third time (not around my eyes, luckily) but within 2-3 days, there was quite a difference after taking the medication.
Hang on in there, and don't touch the area!

When you stop getting new crops of blisters which should be soon if you’re On high dose antivirals. The healing phase is quite crusty but at least you’re managing what’s there and not new lesions.

Oh it's so awful isn't it.
I had it and it took. About 8 weeks to go. Needed another dose of the anti virals. The only that helped was complete rest.

@Jjcrackers I’ve just been told I have this last night and have started taking the antiviral tablets.

How are you now?

@ICSI

Oh you poor thing. Is it on your face or another part of the body. It is a horrible horrible illness that seems to take a lot of different twists and turns.

I had about a week and a half of feeling really rough and then felt much better even though the rash was still there. But last friday I developed terrible itching (like fire ants crawling under my skin). It is driving me mad - I haven't slept well for days. I hope to speak to the doctor today

Oh no that sounds really bad! Hopefully the doctor will be able to give you something to relieve it.

Mine started on my forehead and I thought it was just spots but then it developed on my eyelid and down my nose. At the moment I feel tired and it feels very sensitive where the rash is and itchy on and off.

I’m just a bit worried about it affecting my eye
