Flashing lights in peripheral vision but only when looking at lines.

Our living room has glossy black beams across the ceiling. I recently noticed (maybe the last month or so) that when I’m looking across the room and the lights are on I can see flickering in my peripheral vision. I didn’t know whether it was a bit of an optical illusion as it only happens when I’m looking at lines or beams etc. Any thoughts?

I’ve read up about detached retinas but it doesn’t happen all the time which is what I understand happens with that condition.

If it only happens in that room then it’s like to be an optical illusion or light reflection to do with the beams. If it was an actual issue it would be happening elsewhere too.
