i’ve been prescribed tranexamic acid for heavy periods but on the box it doesn’t say when to take them, just to take two three times a day. i’m assuming i only take them when i’m actually on my period, is that right? i’ve tried to call the pharmacy but i can’t get through. also do they make any real difference to the heaviness and length of periods? i’m currently having extremely heavy ten day long periods and i’m praying these actually do something!

@sunshineandshowers21 talk to you GP for confirmation. Have you read the patient leaflet?
Usually it’s on your first day of bleeding for a number of days (ours is 3)

I take 2 three times a day for the first two days of my period but you could do with checking with your gp

Take them when you are bleeding heavy.

Yes, only when you're on your period. I usually take the 3 doses morning, lunch and evening for the first couple of days when my bleeding tends to be worse and then if it's alleviated I might just take 1 or 2 doses the next couple of days or come off it completely. It does work although I'd say my bleeding was still on the heavy side of normal. I had fibroids which have since been treated but I still sometimes take TA on a bad day.
